The Posties of Todmorden
The final days at the Rise Lane Royal Mail sorting office in Todmorden, West Yorkshire before it's closure in August, 2019. The sorting has now moved to a larger Royal Mail facility in Rochdale. If you live in the Todmorden area, one of these postmen will have been to your door. Always happy, no matter what the weather.
I've known several of these posties for a number of years and wanted to capture the working atmosphere before it evaporated. The day starts early and for the first hour or so, it's silent as they concentrate on getting the mail sorted to "street level". Local knowledge of Todmorden is vital.
When groups of people work together, you often get banter and friendly mickey taking and this group were no exception. Humour is an essential part of life and makes work enjoyable. Trying to capture it is not easy, but as you can see from the faces of the postmen and postwomen who worked at the Todmorden delivery office, they were (and still are) a happy bunch of hard working guys.
